Construction
Many Puentes de Cristo mission teams are involved with some sort of construction project – whether building the walls at a school, pouring a concrete roof at a church, or pouring the foundation of a home. We do our best to make sure there is work for people of all skill levels and abilities. The work is supervised by professional construction workers to make sure our work is done correctly and done safely.
VBS / Work with children
Work with children can be one of the most memorable parts of volunteer service. For groups that are interested we work with local church leaders to set up activities with children. We are happy to provide suggestions and guidance to groups who plan to lead activities with children, but we let groups be creative in planning their own programs.
Worship/Fellowship
Worshipping and spending fellowship time with people in Mexico is a powerful reminder of how God’s love transcends boundaries of language and culture. Worshiping together is a great chance to feel the holy spirit at work among all God’s people.
Cross-cultural Education
One great aspect of travel is the chance to get to know another part of the world better. The US / Mexico border is a fascinating confluence of cultures, and we provide opportunities for groups to learn more about the challenges and opportunities faced by the people and governments around the border. In the past, we’ve met with border patrol agents, union leaders, and other community activists. We’ve also toured factories, public community centers, as well as health care facilities. We are glad to tailor the educational experiences to groups’ particular interests – in the past we’ve worked with groups of university faculty to plan weeklong educational visits.
Recreation
After a week of work and study, it’s good to take a break! Groups can relax by enjoying the lively shopping of the city center, cool off at nearby beaches, take in some of Mexico’s cultural heritage in museums, or enjoy the natural beauty that Mexico has to offer in its forests, mountains, and deserts.
